Avengers kick off Superhero Summer
The world is being invaded by aliens.
ALIENS!
And of course it isn’t just any part of the world. It’s the United States. Manhattan, to be precise.
Who better to save the world than Captain America and his band of misfit superheros?
The Avengers have kicked off Superhero Summer for Hollywood, soon to be followed up by The Amazing Spider-Man (July 3) and The Dark Knight Rises (July 20), starring Christian Bale (rawr) as Batman.

It’s going to be tough for Spider-Man and Batman to beat the Avengers. By Sunday, the movie will have made an estimated $457.1 million domestically, according CNN Entertainment. It was three weeks at No. 1 in both the United States and Canada, until this past weekend when it got knocked off by Men In Black III.
The Avengers is really everything we need in a summer blockbuster … sexy superheroes, America under attack by aliens and big explosions. This movie is sure to provide great costume inspiration for Canadians this Halloween … or how about a summer superhero party?
Loki (Tom Hiddleston) visits us from another dimension (you just know they’re out there) and is hellbent on taking over the world. He’s backed by a really ugly army of mechancial looking aliens but nobody messes with Shaft … I mean, Nick Fury … because, you know, Samuel L. Jackson just seems to play the same brooding, pissed-off guy no matter what he does.
Fury assembles his team of superheroes Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (the adorable Robert Downey Jr.), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (the sultry Scarlett Johansson). And Thor (Chris Hemsworth) drops in to bring Loki back to Asgard.
You don’t want to miss the exciting, bigger than life action of the Avengers.
